Occupying an area of 1,077 sq mi and having a total population of over 0.48 million with the racial heritage of White, Native American, black or African American, Asian, Hispanic or Latino, Pacific Islander, and others along with more than 0.16 million housing units and 0.12 million families, Montgomery County was established in 1837 with Conroe as the county seat and the largest city. It was named in the honor of Montgomery, Texas.
